Cinderella Eco Sales is a subsidiary of Cinderella Eco Group, a family-owned company that is part of the Sjøvik Group. With roots and headquarters in Midsund in Romsdal, Norway, we have built the Cinderella incineration toilet since 1997. From fishing boats to incineration toilet
Cinderella's story begins long before the first incineration toilet was built. The Sjøvik family has been rooted in Midsund, Romsdal, since 1903, when today's CEO Gunhild Sjøvik's great-grandfather started out in the fishing industry, a business still carried on today as part of the Sjøvik Group. He worked side by side with his fishermen, never asking them to take on a risk he wasn't willing to share himself.
His outlook on resources has stayed with the family ever since: "We are stewards of the resources around us, not owners. Our responsibility lies in ensuring that we consume responsibly and with a care to the generations that come after us."
It was this same sense of stewardship that led Gunhild's father, Odd Kjell Sjøvik, to design the first Cinderella prototype back in the 1990s. A toilet that could give people freedom and comfort without depending on water or sewage. That same philosophy still shapes how we work today: our values, dependable, practical, and resource-efficient, are a direct continuation of a family principle that goes back over a century.
Growing from a nordic cabin solution to a global presence
Up until 2012, the Cinderella incineration toilet was available solely on the Scandinavian market in the cottage and leisure home segment. Today, our products are available on an international scale, providing solutions not only for cottage owners but for mobile homes and caravans, and professional segments such as fish feeding platforms, marine wind farms, trucks, crane cabins, railroad companies, mining, and site welfare solutions in portable homes for building and construction workers.
Our factory is located in magical Lyngen, above the Arctic Circle, where we opened our brand new facilities in 2022. Read more about our factory here.
In addition to our dealers and representatives in the Nordic region, we also have distributors in place in Finland, throughout Europe, Australia and New Zealand and North America, as well as emerging markets in Mexico, South Korea, Japan and Africa. Today our incineration toilets are available worldwide.
Building awareness for safe sanitation
As our technology handles waste without water, reducing it to a small amount of ash, our toilets have garnered great interest in areas challenged by poor sanitation and lack of water. We are particularly involved in building awareness for the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals, where Goal number six, clean water and safe sanitation for all by 2030, is especially close to what we do. Meeting this goal alone will change the lives of over 3.6 billion people without safe sanitation today (UN Water).
We celebrate United Nations World Water Day, March 22nd, to build awareness for water scarcity and support programs and World Toilet Day, every November 19th, to support the fact that access to a safe toilet is a human right.
A commitment beyond our own products
Aware of the sanitation challenges across Sub-Saharan Africa, we support the non-profit organization NSP Aid (North South Partnership Aid) as part of our social responsibility. Together with their local partners, NSP Aid helps homeless children and young people in Kenya and Ethiopia through schools, children's homes, and education.
