About Cinderella incineration toilets

What is an incineration toilet?

An incineration toilet is a toilet where waste products are incinerated at high temperatures, reducing them to a minimal amount of ash. The incineration takes place in a closed incineration chamber, and the gases from the incineration are vented through a separate exhaust pipe.

Do I need water or sewage for installing Cinderella?

No, Cinderella incineration toilets does not need to be connected to water or sewage.

What energy sources are available?

Cinderella offers incineration toilets powered by electricity, gas or diesel. This allows cabins without access to the power grid to install and use an incineration toilet. Our gas-powered toilet additionally requires a 12V power source to operate the toilet's electronics.

What is the difference between Cinderella Classic and Cinderella Comfort?

The Classic model uses air from the room for incineration, which requires a vent in the toilet room.

The Comfort model has a closed air system that draws air directly from outside, giving better indoor climate and making it more suitable for year-round cabins.

How long does an incineration cycle take?

Usually 50-70 minutes. Note that incineration time may vary depending on the amount of waste (up to 180 minutes since the last visit).

Can the toilet be used while incineration is in progress?

Yes, the toilet can be used even if an incineration cycle is already running. When the lid is opened, the incineration process stops automatically and will not restart until the lid is closed and the start button is pressed again.

This provides flexibility and allows several people to use the toilet within a short time. A Cinderella toilet has the capacity to handle up to 4 visits per hour, even though a full incineration cycle takes about one hour.

If the toilet is used by many people, we recommend adding a Cinderella Urinal. The urinal is specially designed for urination, reduces the need to start an incineration cycle just for small amounts of liquid, and helps save energy.

What happens if the lid is opened during incineration?

If the lid is opened while an incineration cycle is in progress, the process will stop immediately for safety reasons. A magnetic connection in the lid interrupts the incineration the moment it is opened, ensuring that no one is exposed to heat or gases from the chamber.

The incineration will not resume until the lid is closed and the start button is pressed again.

This safety function ensures that the toilet always operates safely and reliably.

How many people can use the toilet per hour?

All Cinderella incineration toilets have high capacity; 4 people can use the toilet per hour.

Do I need to "flush" after every use?

Yes, you do. Moisture from waste left in the bowl liner will seep through and cause the liner to stick to the bowl. Additionally, waste left standing will eventually start to smell.

Can a Cinderella incineration toilet handle many users?

Yes, a Cinderella incineration toilet has a high capacity and can handle up to 4 visits per hour. For larger groups, we recommend supplementing it with a Cinderella Urinal.

Since about 4 out of 5 toilet visits are for urination only, diverting these visits to a Cinderella Urinal reduces the need to start an incineration cycle. This helps lower both electricity or gas consumption and the use of bowl liners, while at the same time increasing the overall capacity of the cabin toilet solution.

Can toilet paper be used in a Cinderella incineration toilet?

Yes, all types of toilet paper can be used in a Cinderella incineration toilet. The paper incinerates together with the rest of the waste.

Can I incinerate sanitary products in the toilet?

Yes, small sanitary items such as tampons, pads, and alcohol-free wet wipes can be incinerated in the toilet.

Is there anything that cannot be incinerated in the toilet?

Yes, alcohol-based wet wipes or drinks, hand sanitizer, nail polish remover, flammable liquids/materials, gasoline, lamp oil/paraffin, cigarettes, chlorine-based cleaners, too much paper of any kind.

Does the Cinderella incineration toilet work in sub-zero temperatures / cold climates?

Yes, the Cinderella incineration toilet works in sub-zero conditions. Our cabin models are tested and approved for temperatures down to –20 °C. The toilet contains no water or other liquids that can freeze, and the incineration process takes place in a sealed chamber at high temperatures, unaffected by the cold.

For installations in very exposed environments, we offer the Cinderella Original Insulation Kit Arctic (available for Classic, Comfort, Premium and Freedom). This kit adds an extra layer of insulation inside the toilet shell, reducing the buildup of frost and ice. The Arctic kit is only necessary in special environments with extreme cold.

To protect against surface frost when the toilet is in standby at sub-zero temperatures, we offer the Air Baffle Valve Kit. This kit
prevents cold air from entering the unit on models with direct air supply (Comfort and Premium), reducing the risk of surface frost when the toilet is not in use.

The most important factor is correct installation:

  • Ventilation and air intake must be properly installed and protected against snow and ice.
  • Gas models can be used in off-grid cabins, but gas cylinders must always be handled and stored according to safety regulations.

In short: The toilet operates normally in cold conditions, and the Arctic Insulation Kit and Air Baffle Valve are optional add-ons for particularly challenging environments.

How much weight can a Cinderella incineration toilet withstand?

The Classic, Premium, Comfort, and Freedom models are tested and approved for a maximum load of up to 200 kg (approx. 440 lbs).

Cinderella Urinal

How does the Cinderella Urinal work?

The Cinderella Urinal is a water-free urinal developed as a supplement to the incineration toilet.

Since about 4 out of 5 toilet visits are urination only, directing these visits to the Urinal eliminates the need to start an incineration cycle. This reduces energy or gas consumption as well as the use of bowl liners, while increasing overall toilet capacity.

Can toilet paper be used in the Cinderella Urinal?

No. The Cinderella Urinal is designed to handle urine only. Toilet paper or other waste must never be disposed of in the urinal, as this will block the system.

Toilet paper should instead be placed either in the Cinderella incineration toilet, where it will be incinerated together with the rest of the waste, or in a waste bin placed next to the urinal.

Installation

Can I install a Cinderella incineration toilet myself?

Installing a Cinderella toilet is straightforward and requires no external tanks or connection to water or sewage. A ventilation system for air in/out must be installed according to our recommendations to ensure reliable operation and a long lifespan.

It is essential to thoroughly read the installation manual that comes with the toilet. Incorrect installation can lead to malfunctions, odors, or wear and will void the warranty.

Local rules and regulations must always be followed. Please note that gas connections (for models like Freedom) often must be carried out by authorized personnel in accordance with national safety requirements.

Read our best installation tips here.

How many bends are allowed on the flue pipe?

The number of allowed bends depends on the model you have:

  • Electric models (Classic, Comfort, Premium): Maximum of one 90° bend and two 45° bends.
  • Gas model (Freedom): Only one 90° bend (through the wall and up). No additional bends are allowed for this model.

For optimal incineration and safe operation, always follow the installation manual for your specific model.

How high must the flue pipe extend above the roof?

The flue pipe for the Cinderella incineration toilet must always be installed vertically above the roof and extend at least 600 mm (approx. 24 inches) above the roof surface.

In areas with heavy snowfall, it may be necessary to extend the pipe further and secure it accordingly. Please note that there is a maximum total flue pipe length, which varies between models. Always refer to the installation manual for your specific model for correct length and specifications.

Do I need to apply for a permit to install a Cinderella incineration toilet?

Local rules and regulations may vary between countries. In Norway and Sweden, it is not required to apply for a permit to install a Cinderella incineration toilet. The toilet does not require infrastructure such as connection to water or sewage systems.

We always recommend checking the applicable local regulations in your area before installation.

Liners and accessories

Where can I purchase accessories and liners for my Cinderella toilet?

In Norway and Sweden, you can buy Cinderella accessories and liners directly from our official online store or through one of our authorized dealers.

In other countries, Cinderella products – including toilet liners and accessories – are available from our local dealer network.

Find your closest dealer here.

Do I need to use original liners in my Cinderella toilet?

Yes, we always recommend using original Cinderella liners. They are specially designed for our toilets in terms of shape, size, and materials. This ensures that the liner drops correctly into the incineration chamber and that the incineration process works optimally.

Using non-original liners may result in poor incineration performance, malfunctions, and can affect the product warranty.

Operation and maintenance

How often should I empty the ash?

Empty the insert often, preferably at least once a week. Don't wait until the emptying alert. This keeps the toilet in better condition, and the parts last longer. The less ash in the ash container, the faster and more efficiently the incineration process.

Is the ash safe to handle?

Yes, the ash is sterile and contains no bacteria.

Where can I dispose of the ash from my Cinderella toilet?

The ash from a Cinderella toilet is sterile and environmentally friendly. It can be disposed of with regular household waste or scattered in your garden where it acts as a harmless mineral residue.

Always remember to follow local rules and regulations for ash disposal.

What cleaning products should I use to clean the toilet bowl?

We recommend using moist paper, water, and a mild cleaning agent when needed.

What maintenance is required for a Cinderella incineration toilet?

With proper use and maintenance, you will enjoy your Cinderella incineration toilet for many years. Most of the important maintenance can be done by the user:

  • Emptying and cleaning the ash container and insert – Often, preferably at least once a week.
  • Steam cleaning the catalyst – Each time you empty the insert.
  • Cleaning the toilet’s exhaust connection – After approx. 500 uses.
  • Rinsing the catalyst – Once a year (more frequently if the toilet is used in a year-round residence).
  • Cleaning the pipe and ventilation pipe – Once a year (more frequently if the toilet is used in a year-round residence).
  • General cleaning – Wipe interior and exterior surfaces with a mild detergent; avoid strong chemicals.

For detailed routines and service intervals, always refer to the installation and user manual for your specific model.
